Faith and Chaos - Stories
A look at what happened during and/or after Session 23.
Story - Cosmic Designs: Stage 5
Game Date: 10/14/2005
Location: San Francisco, California
Prime begins working on the decryption module and once again time begins to fly.
The Internet provides a myriad of sources on ciphers, codes and cryptography but with the power of the cosmic computer he breezes through them at lightning speed. He grabs snippets of code from here and there molding them together into one while from time to time laughing out loud and mumbling about "putting together the ultimate decoder ring... um, module."
Since he has access to the US government's network via the FSS, he tests the base code against government systems modifying it until he is able to access their networks like any other registered user. Knowing that on the off chance that his intrusions are detected, he will just tell them that as a member of the Wardens he was conducting tests of their network security to ensure it was protected from those with villainous intentions and as proof of his goodwill he will also offer suggests on how to improve their network security.
As he turns his attention to different national and corporate systems, the task even with the speed of the cosmic computer, begins to become tedious. The processes used in encryption and code making are as individual as their creators.
When he grows bored, his thoughts turn to other things.
As a diversion, Prime focuses on the goal for which he had originally designed the cosmic computer, sifting through the history, science and knowledge on this Earth's Internet and comparing it with what he remembers from before he was transformed to determine if he is in the 'right' dimension. During his searches, he finds many weird stories, conspiracy theories and other oddities that capture his attention.
Work on the decryption module grinds to a halt.
Prime yawns as he finally slips the neural interface from his head. Once again, he’d completely lost track of time, he realizes as his empty belly rumbles. He begins trudging towards the mini-frig when he pauses. There is something he has to do. He focuses for a moment on the cosmic computer, making a slight adjustment to the circuitry. For a fleeting moment he wonders why he’d made that change, but the idle thought is soon swept away by exhaustion and hunger.
