Wardens Fourth Edition
Rogue Prime, Part 2 - Stories
A look at what happened during and/or after Session 28.
Story - Professor Primus: Master of the Nth Dimension
Game Date: 5/17/2006
Location: San Francisco, California
Prime wakes in a small windowless room and rises from a narrow bed. He blearily blinks his large round eyes, then reaches up to touch the odd collar around his neck. Something felt... different. He thought a moment, then abruptly realized what it was, he no longer had a sense of cosmic energy flowing through him, feeding the aura that had surrounded him since his 'accident.'
Prime tries to think back to what had happened. Concerned that some unknown incident may have befallen him in Florida, he had asked Amethyst to watch over him while he carefully briefly exposed himself to a cosmic shard. Then everything had gone black. Clearly, something had indeed happened.
Prime knocks politely on the heavy steel door, then after no response knocks somewhat louder. The small observation window in the door is opened by a member of the security staff. Prime asks what has happened and is politely informed by security that he is under confined observation but reasonable requests would be granted - but no Internet access, electronic devices or computer hardware would be provided.
Prime sits down and slowly and patiently thinks through the situation. With the loss of his cosmic aura he has lost the last tie to his old life. He is no longer Johan Doyle, intrepid research assistant. He is no longer under Professor Herbert's shadow. Even his thoughts felt... different now. He would need to forge a new identity... a new path.
He stands back up and raps on the door. When the small observation window opens, Prime rattles off a request for a long list of books, a manual typewriter and several reams of blank paper.
When the supplies arrive, he drags the box over to the bed and picks up the first book, A History of World War II. He focuses on the book for a moment, letting a trickle of dimensional energy flow into it until the title changes to A History of World War IV. Quietly he begins reading.
Other books follow. Sometimes the text would change into strange symbols never before seen on earth - at least in this dimension - but the legacy of the AI whose cosmic pathways had forever changed the pathways of his brain included the ability to nearly instantly translate almost any non-encrypted written language.
Whenever Prime decides an altered book contains knowledge or philosophical ideas of value to the world, he painstakingly begins retyping the book, page by page, on the typewriter. Occasionally he resorts to using his prehensile toes or tip of his tail to speed completion of the copy before the original changes back.
Not knowing how long his 'period of confined observation' would last, he plans to have a large stack of manuscripts to send off to publishers when he is released. He even knows what he will use as a pen name, he had jotted it down when he had started typing the first book, 'Professor Primus.' No longer is he a mere assistant, now, he will be the teacher.
