Story - Eon in the Hospital

Game Date: 8/3/2006  -  8/14/2006
Location: San Francisco, California

Who: Amethyst (II), Delta-Vee, Knight of Saint Michael, Eon (Lazarus), Prime

Thursday: August 3, 2006

Dr. Rebecca Miller provides a full medical overview to the Wardens on Eon's injuries. He has multiple compound fractures to his right leg and several simple fractures to his left leg. His pelvic area is intact but has a couple of hairline fractures. The organs in his abdominal region have all suffered trauma resulting in some internal bleeding but no large lacerations or ruptures have been found. His thoracic region shows several fractured ribs, a punctured lung and a minor tear in the diaphragm. There is also recent healing that indicates a puncture wound to the upper dorsal abdominal area just below the rib cage that most likely ruptured his abdominal aorta as it to shows sights on scans of recently formed scar tissue. Both arms each have several simple fractures. His cranial region shows multiple contusions and lacerations as well as a fractured mandible and right zygomatic arch. Brain scans show a very high level of activity including the cognitive areas of the brain which would indicate little or no damage to the brain. These combined injuries would have proven fatal to almost all humans and a large number of paranormals. She doubts any of the other Wardens, past or present, would have survived this much damage at one time. Her tests reveal that the energies normally associated with Eon's healing abilities are not present or are at such a minimal level as not to register on the portable scanners she has at the hospital. She is not sure what is keeping Eon alive and is not sure if he will wake from his current comatose state.

2006.08.08 - Story - Stairway to Hell

++++++++++

Dr. Rebecca Miller arrives at the hospital shortly after Eon had revived. She speaks with Amethyst about the incident to get a first hand account of what had happened. Next, she checks the readings from the instrument pack that Delta-Vee had brought to her on the first day that they had learned that Eon was in St. Vincent's.

Unfortunately, the attempts to revive Eon had overloaded the scanners and there were no readings thereafter. After a quick check, she realizes that a simple recalibration would not be able to return the scanners to working order. They would need to be replaced.

Dr. Miller not wanting the staff to eavesdrop on her conversation leaves the ICU ward and heads for the observation deck. Once there she calls the Wardens' base and asks that a new instrument pack be delivered to St. Vincent's as soon as possible.

After her call she returns to Eon's room to wait for the delivery from Alcatraz. Dr. Miller converses with Amethyst until the new scanners arrived.

Once the instrument pack is delivered, the doctor hooks them up to her patient and after a few minutes announces to his teammate that there is no change in his condition. The energy signature that is usually present when Eon's regenerative abilities were active are still absent.

Prime frowns as he reads over the latest report. This Eon situation is apparently more critical than he had previously believed. This whole dropping dead for eight minutes and not even having the common courtesy to shape change and miraculously heal himself is a problem. Clearly, his intervention is required.

Prime sighs as he turns on his Warden's communicator and opens a line to the head of Warden's public relations. "Alberto Ruiz. I know you're a bit busy with the whole mayor situation but something more important has popped up. Namely Eon's condition has taken a turn for the worse. Now, his powers are not fully understood, but from what I have observed they are related to positive and negative psychic energy. So, eventually, we'll need to start contacting any psychics or psionics friendly to the Wardens to see if they can assist in jump-starting his depleted healing abilities. In the meantime, lets see if we can get a general level of good will and benevolence focused in his direction. The Wardens have saved a lot of folk over the years. See if we can get some church congregations praying for him. It's a long shot, but it just might help."

++++++++++

Dr. Rebecca Miller makes her late night check on Eon. His condition has returned to near the state it was prior to the Code Blue early that day. The energy signature that is usually present when Eon's regenerative abilities were active are still absent.

Thursday: August 10, 2006

Dr. Rebecca Miller stops by the hospital to do her morning check on her patient. She greets Amethyst and comments that she had been here for over a week and asks if any of the others had taken a turn watching over Eon.

Not yet is Amethyst's reply.

Dr. Miller sees some strange readings from the scanners from a little after midnight that morning. She asks Amethyst if anything had happened during the night and Amethyst says not that she knows of. Dr. Miller tells her about the readings and Amethyst says that she had visited the facilities and stretched her legs a little after midnight so she was not in the room but when she returned Eon had a rose in his hand. Dr. Miller examines the rose but sees nothing out of the ordinary.

She places the rose in Eon's hand then asks Amethyst to leave the room and come back in about ten minutes. She watches the instruments until Amethyst's return but the strange readings do not occur again.

Dr. Miller questions the nurses on duty but a check of the patient and ward logs show nothing out of the ordinary during the time the strange readings were recorded and the rose was left.

Dr. Miller swaps out the data discs from the instrument pack and takes the ones with the strange readings as well as the rose back to the base for analysis.

++++++++++

Amethyst thinks about what Dr. Miller had said about one of the other's keeping an eye on Eon and sends a text message to the other Wardens.

'I have been staying at the hospital with Eon for the last week and need a break as well as some time to work on some things at the base. Can anyone relieve me at this time?'

She gets a reply from the Knight, 'I will do so.'

The Knight arrives soon afterward and relieves Amethyst. He spends the rest of the day and night watching over Eon. He keeps as eye on the staff's comings and goings as well as ensuring that the press is kept away from the ICU.

++++++++++

Friday: August 11, 2006

Dr. Rebecca Miller checks in on Eon and reports no change in his condition. As she starts to head back to the base to do some more analysis of the data and rose, she sees the Knight and Thunder talking in the hall.

The Knight is relieved by Thunder of the Wardens' Reserve who explains that Amethyst had made arrangements with him and the other members of the Wardens' Reserve to ensure that there is always someone at the hospital with Eon. The Knight thanks Thunder for his assistance, looking up he sees Dr. Miller approaching.

Dr. Miller and the Knight discuss Eon's condition on the way back to the base.

2006.08.11 - Story - Good Friday?

++++++++++

Saturday: August 12, 2006

Dr. Rebecca Miller makes her morning check on Eon and finds there is no change in his condition.

++++++++++

Amethyst returning to the hospital to relieve Thunder after his shift watching Eon almost literally runs into a guy that is coming out of the ICU. The guy dodges around her with inhuman ease, continues down the hall then turns the corner heading towards the elevators. Amethyst notes how easily the guy avoids her and turns to follow him down the hall. When she turns the corner toward the elevators, he is nowhere to be seen. A quick questioning of the staff in the area finds no one that has seen the guy.

She speaks to Thunder and notifies him of the encounter and describes the man. Thunder does not recall seeing anyone matching the description on the floor or in the ICU.

Amethyst reports the incident with a description of the man to Adam and Melinda asks for a check of the FSS criminal databases for possible matches.

++++++++++

Dr. Rebecca Miller goes to St. Vincent's for her midday check on Eon.

Amethyst talks with her about the encounter that morning.

Dr. Miller expresses her concern about the security at the hospital and also mentions that she thinks some of the ICU staff is leaking information about Eon to the press and the Mayor. The doctor also expresses her displeasure with the limited capabilities of the portable sensor suite and that the hospital is not setup to treat paranormals. She concludes that even though it is risky moving Eon to the Wardens' base would allow more exacting diagnosis of his condition and better overall care as well as provide a secure environment away from the loose lips of the staff and prying eyes of the press.

Amethyst consults with the other Wardens about Dr. Miller's recommendation and the team begins looking for the safest way to move Eon to the base.

++++++++++

Sunday: August 13, 2006

It is decided that the high-tech medical 'coffin' would be the safest way to transport Eon from St. Vincent's to the base. It can monitor his condition and maintain intravenous feeds without the monitoring equipment or intravenous lines being exposed to the outside environment.

Prime is asked to check over the 'coffin' to ensure it is operational. He verifies that everything is in working order.

++++++++++

A check with the Alcatraz Foundation legal department finds that Eon had signed all of the standard release forms. Amethyst is designated as the holder of Eon's healthcare power of attorney. The Wardens decide to do as Dr. Miller recommended and Amethyst signs the consent forms to move Eon.

Monday: August 14, 2006

The St. Vincent's staff physicians object when Dr. Miller informs them that Eon will be moved to the Wardens base. They call for a review of the case by the hospital board. Both sides present their recommendations to the board and they decide to release Eon to Dr. Miller and Amethyst.

++++++++++

The Pegasus arrives at the hospital with the 'coffin' and Eon is secured in it. He is flown to the Wardens' Headquarters on Alcatraz Island.

The transfer of Eon from St. Vincent's to the Wardens' base infirmary is done without incident.
