Karex,

Thanks for the heads up, we have already encountered the creatures and have summoned the FSS to provide assistance gathering evidence.

On another note unrelated, very nice fireworks display, I can honestly say it the most amazing use of explosives I have EVER seen.

If you are still curious about that deep sea exploration idea let me know. Would be curious to see what is beneath the ocean for once. With you accompanying me of course. Let me know soon.

Eon,

In your current state, do you still need to breath? Would your crystalline form be immune to the cold and pressure of the depths? If you are capable of the rigors of the journey, I'd be happy to have a fellow alien explore the depths of the Ocean with me. I have several interesting sites already selected.

Karex and Eon,

I am working on the bio-ceramic creature issue. You will receive briefings when appropriate.

As for the undersea trip, I'd better have accurate reports from both of you, especially if you want to get something constructive done. In addition, Karex, you and I are going to have a one-on-one if I get the first tuna can with any kind of complaint in it.

You wear a cantonment of the Arms of St. Michael. I and the Archangel expect you to behave appropriately.

Karex,

First, no I do not need to breath, never did even in a human form.

Second I believe this body could withstand significant pressures and as far temperature goes I do not see that being a factor.

Third, please do not refer to me as an alien. I am human, altered currently, but human none the less.

Let me know when you want to leave and we can depart, I would suggest we devise a method of communication since I can not talk underwater; hand signals will need to suffice.

Knight,

While I have nothing but endless respect for you and your role as field commander of the Wardens, you are sounding more like an overbearing nanny than a teammate. We are going underwater and do not know what else could possibly happen there. If anything occurs you can be assured I will apprise you of ALL activities while on our journey. Considering this I would like to appropriate some video documenting equipment rated for pressurized diving. This would come in handy I believe in case we want to record our findings. Also will need lights to use for illumination.

I give you my word I will keep an eye on Karex and we will do everything possible not to embarrass the Wardens.

----------

Karex paddled over to the large ocean floor map with the small pins marking each potential site of Dolphin ruins. He idly scratched the tip of his left wing and he pondered the situation. As a fellow alien, even though Eon clearly preferred to maintain the illusion that he was still human, Eon was the logical assistant in his work. Any technology recovered was extremely unlikely to be compatible with Eon's alien energy-matrix and crystalline form.

Now, there was the matter of site selection. Hmm. Tricky. But perhaps . . . .

"Computer, I wish communications with all three of your main personalities. As you may be aware, my people are divided among castes specialized for particular fields of labor. What you may not be aware of is that computer intelligences are fully integrated members of my race's society and provided with all the same rights and obligations as the other castes. You are of course aware of my efforts to assist humanity in developing a greater appreciation for and respect for other sentient life forms on this planet, such as the native dolphin population - and I wanted to thank you for your assistance in that regard. I am now going to reveal to you confidential information, which I hope you will keep as closely, guarded a secret as possible. Prior to my universal translator becoming unavailable, I had many long conversations with the Bay area's Dolphin population. During those conversations, a Dolphin oral historian provided me with information indicating that at one time, a psionic sub-race of Dolphins served as the foundation for a now long lost dolphin civilization. Using that information, I have been attempting to identify potential sites for that civilization. I have just made an agreement with Eon to start investigating these sites. Needless to say, if by some outrageously small probability, technology survived in these ruins, it could be extremely dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands. That is why I am requesting you keep this knowledge as secret as possible. As to why I am informing you of this now, is that Eon and I would like your assistance in selecting investigation sites and planning the expeditions. Please check both Eon and my schedules and make appropriate arrangements. I will be providing you with all the available information to assist in this activity. Thank you."

Karex pondered a moment, wondering if he was doing the right thing. But if you can't trust your computer, who can you trust? He plucked a small fish from his room's feeding pool and crunched on it nervously.

----------

Eon smiled at his account balance, forwarding the amount to Rebecca for use in the clinic. The income stream from his paintings would ensure the venture would not close due to funding.

His inquiries into borrowing some video recording equipment for undersea exploration had been fruitful; the FSS had provided leads to a division of the military. They were happy to loan him the equipment with the agreement to share whatever footage was taken. This came with two portable high intensity lamps for lighting the area. He only was able to get them for a few weeks.

He sat down and sent an email to Karex,

Karex,

I have gotten all the equipment needed to record our excursion to the deep. Since we have limitations on how long I have this stuff I would like to leave as soon as possible. Let me know when and where we are going. I would suggest us taking the sub from the base to the location to preserve the power cells on the recorders. Is tomorrow too soon?

Eon

----------

Karex considered carefully. Well, if the computer hadn't come up with the highest probability location in a few days, he could always just pick one at random.

He reached a hand over to the waterproof keyboard and quickly typed an email in reply.

Eon,

Being overbearing is not intentional, nor is it directed at you. However, the fact that you responded and Karex didn't underlines my concern.

I hope that you can figure out what's going on, because I want a second opinion of this as the only word I have comes from Karex.

Furthermore, the fact that I can't cover you at all bothers me. The Pacific is a massive ocean, and God only knows what's down there... and He isn't telling me.

Sir Knight,

I am afraid I did not quite understand your email.

The little black monsters referred to by the child are bio-ceramic organisms?

In regards to undersea trips, I have been exploring beneath the waters around the bay quite frequently while improving my fluency with basic Dolphinese. I am quite curious to see how fast paranormal powers spread among the Dolphin population. I believe I mentioned I was lucky enough to witness one of the local Dolphins first develop paranormal powers? I asked the computer to generate an appropriate report on the matter, so I am sure you were fully informed of the essentials.

Did you ever discover how many of the building's human workers were exposed to the gene-splicing virus when the paranormally-enhanced dolphin superhero forced the contaminated sewage water back into the plant and sealed the drainage pipe so as to save her people from infection? I was mildly curious as to whether any of the humans also developed paranormal abilities as the result of exposure.

Karex,

You read correctly. The little black creatures are bio-ceramic. I am reviewing the human toll of the dolphin incident.
