Story - Animatronic Yricians
Game Date: 6/18/2007
Karex receives an email from Paul Stevens, the designer of Robot Ted, requesting a meeting.
The request indicates that he would like to have the meeting to discuss the possibility of employment with the Karex Corp or the Yrician Cultural Trust.
Karex is happy to receive the request, as he has in mind the possibility of using animatronic Yricians as educational displays at the Consulate-General facility. He replies with the details for a meeting at Alcatraz Island and is very pleased to receive Stevens' reply that he will be there.
Karex happily shakes Paul Stevens hand as he meets him in a large golden tent next to the construction site of the Consulate-General facility.
"Welcome! I was hoping you'd be in touch. As you can see, we are working on the basics right now, but I'm hoping to start work on the visitor center/Yrician museum areas shortly and that is where you'll come in. I was quite impressed with Robot Ted. That looks like just the sort of mobile, but space-restricted technology that we will need for the center."
Karex rolls out several large sheets of paper covered with sketches and notes.
"This is what I had in mind. In the west wing there, we will set up two Animatronics to represent Yrician gladiators. They'll need to be designed tough so they can put on a show. Harmless lasers, smoke, loud sound effects, soft fake projections, perhaps? Of course, tough enough to take an occasional staged whack at each other."
Point at another section of the map, Karex continued.
"In the east wing, I wanted an animatronic that will represent an Yrician councilor. Think sage, wise, Yoda-ish, lots of pre-programmed wise sounding sayings. I can help there with translations of some of my species stories and sayings."
Then pointing at the facility entrance, Karex further detailed his ideas.
"Here, by the entrance, two animatronics representing Yrician warriors pretending to stand guard at the entrance. They won't need to do much except have their gaze follow the nearest guest and to occasionally say things like, 'No smoking allowed within the area' or 'No food or beverages allowed within these hallowed halls.'"
Karex grinned hopefully as he asks, "So, what do you think?"
Stevens pauses a moment looking at the plans and Karex's notes, the excitement in his manner quite evident.
"It is a dream come true, a fully funded project backed by a visionary leader. The sky is the limit and the world will be amazed at what we produce," he replies.
The two continue discussing the plans playing off of each other's enthusiasm.
A few hours later, Paul Stevens leaves with a salary advance and a starting date.
