Interludes: 30

A look at what happened behind the scenes during and after Session 30.

Interludes

Interlude 30.901

Game Date: 7/16/2006
Location: San Francisco, California

The sensor tech had built an interface so that his portable field data scanner could read the primitive data storage devices and analyze the data that they contained. He was not surprised to find that his target spent most of his time investigating a flawed theory on the evolution of life. There was no mention of the power crystals anywhere in the data. This had sealed the target's fate and the time had come to take him. The sensor tech readied the combat rig for another excursion outside.

Interlude 30.902

Game Date: 7/17/2006
Location: Unknown

In all of his years, it was the first time he had ever killed a man. It would also be the last he vowed to himself.

The voice of his friend spoke soothingly trying to comfort him. "The boy had lost his humanity and that made him worse than any animal. The boy was a killer nothing more and killing him had been an act of mercy."

He listened to the words of his friend and knew that they rang with truth.

Yet a part of him wept silently at the loss, for the old man had just taken the life of his only child.

Interlude 30.903

Game Date: 7/18/2006
Location: San Francisco, California

The little ones moved amongst the shadows day in and day out following their quarry. Yet something else called to them, the siren song of the ancient enemy. It distracted them from their task... pulling their attention away... the maker would not approve... that would mean their unmaking... still the song called to them...

Interlude 30.904

Game Date: 7/29/2006
Location: San Francisco, California

It felt as if he had been falling forever... then he stopped and was consumed by pain.

He tried to breathe but all he felt was a gurgling in his chest.

Was it his fate to die yet again?

Then he felt the power coursing through him and reached out for more. His pain left him to be replaced by the pain of others. He fed upon it like it was the nectar of the gods, drawing more and more, until there was no more.

When he looked up he saw a being standing over him with a shock of long red hair broken by a bright yellow bolt of lightning running down the middle. The one with the strangely colored hair pushed him into the hands of others who pulled him from the belly of the twisted metal beast. They pulled him to a camp stool and sat him there.

He saw a reflection in a nearby looking glass. Instinct told him it was his reflection but yet the face that looked back at him was strange and different.

He looked around and took in his surroundings. He had returned to the future time and it appeared that a great battle had taken place here. It was a fitting place for his return. He sat for a while longer amongst the chaos before getting up and walking away into the night.

His destiny called to him... there was someone he must kill.
