Interludes

Interlude 52.901

Game Date: 10/31/2007

Prelax looked down on the retrovirus samples. He had gone to elaborate efforts to memorize the precise genetic sequences he wished to add to the human genome as a precaution against loss of data integrity during the journey to Earth. However, even he had not anticipated both the loss of all his Yrician equipment and the extremely primitive nature of the human's gene tech.

The human tech was so primitive that he and Wareta had decided to conduct initial experiments on humanity's less sentient primate cousins, but the efforts were not going well. The lung adaptation, designed to allow the primates to breathe freely in either air or water, was proving to have too long a conversion time in over half the test subjects. The rest seemed to reject inexplicably the genetic alterations after only a few minutes up to a few months.

At first, he assumed it was merely a matter of finding the right retrovirus to use as a vector, but he was quickly growing to fear that he would need to engineer his own carrier retrovirus to get the results he desired. A process that would require considerably more resources than he had presently available in his current inadequate lab. The Yrician Embassy could no doubt provide better facilities, but then he'd be under the watchful eyes of Karex and the Wardens.

Was that a risk that he was prepared to take?

There was a scrambling outside the door, Prelax had just enough time to realize he had forgotten to lock it, before the door creaked open and one of Wareta's new hatchlings scurried into the office on all fours. Flapping his wings to give himself added lift, he leapt onto the lab table, smashing open the retrovirus samples and recklessly mixing their contents.

Prelax growled softly as he picked up the hatchling and carried him out of the lab, slamming the door behind him. That was enough. He could not continue his work with half a dozen hatchling Yricians constantly interfering. It was time to visit the Yrician embassy, if only to drop off the hatchlings, so he could work in peace.

Interlude 52.902

Game Date: 10/31/2007

The lieutenant entered the office of the doctor.

Von Hausser sat in his chair with his eyes closed. His skin wrinkled and pale almost transparent. His hair matched the white of his wrinkled lab coat.

"Report," sounded the strong voice of the frail looking man.

The lieutenant cleared his throat and then spoke.

"We have received a high-priority flagged report from Omega 5," stated the young man as he sat the packet of information on the doctor's desk.

The doctor leaned forward in his chair and picked up the packet then motioned for the lieutenant to leave.

La Sociedad Sangre had made a move at the Halloween Party at the Ramon Marcel Community Center for a child with a high probability of paranormal abilities. The child, Michael Lazaro, was taken by the Sangre soldiers. Omega 5 was able to tag the child for tracking and possible recovery.

The doctor sat back in his chair then spoke to the ceiling.

"Have a hunter-seeker team locate the child taken by La Sociedad Sangre and determine recovery chances."

A mechanical voice answered, "As you have ordered, it has been done."

Interlude 52.903

Game Date: 10/31/2007

The sensor tech looked up at his console. The entry into the Nexus had not gone properly but things were starting to stabilize and the station was returning to optimal monitoring position. He started adjusting the instruments that recorded outside signals.

A spike in one of the standard waves surprised him. He checked the console again but there was not a change in the signal, a Guardian defense drone was online but something was preventing him from getting a control signal lock on.

The sensor tech set to work trying to gain control of the defense drone.

Interlude 52.904

Game Date: 11/1/2007

As Prelax and Wareta drove their hatchling-filled van down to San Francisco, it completely slipped Prelax's mind that he had forgot to sterilize the lab before departing. He didn't spare a thought to the test apes, left in their cages, that had been exposed to the combined retrovirus samples. He hadn't even left on his recording devices to document the process as one of the apes doubled in size with alarming swiftness, its fur falling out to be replaced by hard green Yrician-like scales.

Interlude 52.905

Game Date: 11/10/2007

The sensor tech looked at his console. There was a spike in one of the non-standard waves. He turned tracking to the wave of the new signal and found that the end station was where the wielders of this area resided. The origin was of more interest, it was a station in space. The sensor tech made several notes in his logs regarding the signal.

The sensor tech then returned to work trying to gain control of the defense drone.

Interlude 52.906

Game Date: 11/15/2007

Sabine was happy that the government followed their own rules regarding criminals and procedure.

Der Zornnatter had been transferred from the North Hills facility to a holding cell at FSS Western Region Headquarters at the Presidio. Team Adalwolf was keeping the FSS headquarters under surveillance should the opportunity present itself to liberate him.

Interlude 52.907

Game Date: 11/16/2007

An alien shriek pierced the silence. The lighting in the room changed from a soft warm glow to a harsh red. A presence stirred, a signal had been received. The signal announced that the time of return was at hand. An alien shriek filled the room and then there was silence. A hum filled the room, data was gathered. The Makers were on the way.

Interlude 52.908

Game Date: 11/16/2007

An alert sounded and the sensor tech looked up at his console sensor tech looked up at his console. There was a spike in one of the standard waves and it chilled him to his very core.

The signal was one of the Makers and the origin was off planet.

The sensor tech returned to work trying to gain control of the defense drone without a thought for anything else. If the wielders of this world could not stop the Makers, the defense drone was his only hope.
