On the Watch
Sinjin Miles (Scorpion), Shelby Jeffers (Nightstick), Dutch Claiborne (John Battle), Drake Moorland (Mandrake), Dameon Black (Shadowknight), Albert Cage (Photon), Cynthia Miles (Hellfire), Pandora, Pankaj Shindar (Marut).
John Battle goes to the warehouse headquarters. Freddie gives him the brief on the encounter with the Grand Empire the previous evening. After reading through the brief, John Battle calls Agent Susan Chen to discuss the situation. Agent Chen tells John Battle that the agents are scheduled to be questioned later that afternoon and John Battle tells her that he will be there for the questioning.
Mandrake appears at a "Say No to Drugs" rally at the Civic Center.
Sinjin and Wendy go to lunch. Wendy tells Sinjin that she is really enjoying her new job. She asks him if he has talked to Father Michael about setting up an appointment with Drake Moorland. Sinjin says that he hasn't had a chance to talk with Father Michael. Wendy tells Sinjin that she gets some strange calls working on the Madame Mystery staff but one call had really spooked her. The caller, a woman who sounded very worried, asked some questions about Brimstone and then hung up.
After classes, Dameon goes to the warehouse headquarters where he runs into John Battle. John Battle suggests that Shadowknight join him at FSS San Francisco Central for the questioning of the captured the Grand Empire agents. Dameon agrees and summons his armor. The two go to FSS headquarters at the Presidio.
John Battle and Shadowknight participate in the questioning of a Grand Empire agent. They learn that most of the agents from the previous night's raid on the warehouse were from a militia group based in Montana. The group had been recruited recently and this was their first mission. Their equipment had been delivered to a drop site and the stolen crates were to be delivered to a different drop point. The agent discloses that this mission was a test and if successful, his group would have been inducted as regular agents into the Grand Empire.
Drake and Pankaj are having lunch when Drake gets a call from the Courier legal department. Anita Stephens, Courier's import/export legal expert, informs him that several incoming shipments had been held up by customs. Drake meets with Anita to review the issues with the shipments. Then he starts looking into the problems and how to get them resolved.
Dameon returns to his apartment. He calls Marie-Claire but she is not home. Dameon gets a call from a woman. The woman asks if he is Dameon and he says yes. The woman asks his last name and he answers Black. The woman apologizes, says that she has the wrong number and hangs up. Dameon thinks he recognizes the voice but cannot place where he has heard it before.
Drake has lunch with Walter Konrad of PacCom and tells him about Customs holding up the shipments. Walter tells Drake that he will see what he can find out and get back with Drake. They agree to have dinner on Friday.
After lunch, Drake sits in on an interview with Anita Stephens. She is hiring an attorney to assist with the workload in the import/export legal department. They interview Melinda Green. Drake and Anita are impressed with her credentials and educational background. They decide she is the leading candidate for the job.
Shelby reads in the paper about the death of Louisa Firch. The article states that she died in an automobile accident. Shelby decides to look into the accident to see if it was the result of foul play.
The next morning after reviewing all of the other candidates, Anita contacts Melinda and tells her that she needs to come in for a second interview. Melinda meets with Anita and is hired. Melinda is assigned to the import/export team in the Courier Communications legal department
Constance calls Drake and explains that she must bow out on him that evening due to some urgent family business. Drake says that it was okay and that he had been about to call her and bow out of dinner as well due to a pressing business matter. Constance says that she will give Drake a call when she gets back in town.
Drake and Pankaj have lunch at the Pacific Union Club with Nick Mann, CEO of InfoTech Systems. They discuss updating the Courier Communications database software to the latest ITDb software. They also discuss Alcatraz Foundation business and the funding for the Wardens' headquarters.
Drake and Walter Konrad have dinner. He informs Drake that International Telecom was most likely using some influence to cause Customs to delay the Courier shipments. Walter also tells Drake that he has brought some power to bear on Customs to get the problems cleared up and hopes that things will be handled by the middle of the week.
Albert has dinner with Melinda and she tells him the news about her new job at Courier Communications in the import/export legal department.
After dinner, Drake attends the Simon T. Rosenbloom Foundation AIDS benefit that he had planned on going to with Constance.
John Battle gets a call from Agent Susan Chen. She tells him that one of the Grand Empire agents revealed that a ship docked in Alameda was being used by the Grand Empire to transport equipment. Agent Chen asks if he and the Wardens could check up on the ship.
John Battle contacts Mandrake, Shadowknight, Star and Scorpion. They meet at the warehouse headquarters. A little after the start of the meeting Hellfire shows up and apologizes for being late. Mandrake contacts Photon and makes arrangements for him to join the group during the investigation of the ship.
The group crosses the bay to Alameda with Photon joining them along the way. Mandrake using a spell of far-seeing and far-hearing finds that the crew of the ship is expecting a delivery the next day. The group calls in an FSS surveillance team to monitor the ship and goes home.
