The Secret History of Mariah Hernandez
Mariah is a very special individual. Her father, Juan a.k.a. Rayo, was one of the federal agents granted paranormal abilities by Project: Avenger. Mariah is the only child born to a paranormal from Project: Avenger.
Mariah gymnastics and dance training made it easier for her to hide her paranormal abilities when they started to develop during her early teens. Although she excelled at gymnastics and dance, her parents knowing she was a paranormal withheld her from competitions as they thought it would not be fair to the other competitors.
Mariah received martial training from her father and her aunt, Gisela Hernandez Ramirez a.k.a. Estrella. Mariah never planned to be a part of a Radley-Gold group but her father insisted she learn to protect herself.
When her father was killed by and her aunt disappeared during combat with the Darkling Entity, Mariah returned to San Francisco. After talking to Dutch Claibourne a.k.a. John Battle, an old friend of her father's, she decided to take upon the mantle of her father and aunt. She took the codename, Star, the English version of her aunt's codename, and joined the original Wardens.
Star has been a member of every incarnation of the Wardens since their beginning in 1996.
Star along with John Battle took a leave of absence from the group in January 2001 and moved to the Wardens North Bay estate. Both had health issues that would not allow them to continue in active duty roles with the Wardens. The two of them taking leave was not announced to the public as it was thought it would undermine the public's confidence in the newly recruited Wardens' members.
Mariah and Randall "Dutch" Claibourne were married in a private ceremony on February 14, 2001. Mariah gave birth to a son, Juan Randall, on May 23, 2001.
Soon after Juan Randall's birth, Dutch Claibourne was killed trying to keep agents from the Grand Empire from kidnapping the baby.
Juan Randall was rescued by the Wardens from a Grand Empire base in Nevada and returned to Mariah a few weeks after the kidnapping.
Publicly, Star and John Battle served as the co-leaders of the Wardens until his retirement and her transfer to reserve status were announced on September 3, 2001.
Mariah, along with Juan Randall, her mother Carmen and her aunt Gisela, have recently left the Wardens North Bay estate and are touring the world. Mariah has had tracking devices secreted in the clothing of the four travelers. She and Gisela are also carrying Wardens communicators in case they should run into trouble.
Publicly, Star is listed as a member of the Wardens North Bay Reserve.
