Marina Forlon, a.k.a. Dawn
After the FSS identified the female survivor of the Nekros attack as Marina Forlon, I was asked by Silver Star to do a thorough background check on her. Knowing that Silver Star preferred short and concise reports like his mentor John Battle, I distilled the information I found into the following brief - Whitney
Marina Forlon was born on May 21, 1983 in the town of Hawkins, Nebraska. Her mother, Merissa Forlon, died in childbirth. Marina was raised by her maternal grandmother, Angelique. Her grandmother passed away when Marina was three. Officials could find no relatives to take the child, so she was made a ward of the state. Marina moved from foster home to foster home until, at the age of thirteen, she was taken in by Michael and Virginia Keller. Living with the Kellers provided a stable environment for Marina. She started excelling in school and earned scholarships from several universities including Harvard, Columbia and Brown. Just prior to Marina starting college at Columbia University, the Kellers died in a plane crash. Marina was the sole heir to the Keller estate with a lucrative trust fund setup to provide for her needs until she graduated college. Marina decided against attending Columbia and instead moved to San Francisco where she enrolled at the University of San Francisco. Marina has no criminal record.
Marina's Story
The Wardens, Marina and Dr. Miller gather in the common room on sub-level two. After everyone takes a seat, Marina tells her story.
"First, I am a paranormal and have the ability to manipulate light. My encounter with Nekros was not an accident, I was searching for it. That thing took my friend, Bobby and I thought that if I took it down, then you, the Wardens, would have to consider me as a qualified candidate for membership in the group. I apologize for my rashness. My actions put not only me but others at risk, I should have come to you first rather than seeking out the creature alone."
During her "confession," Marina notices the bonding bracelet on her arm.
"What is this weird bracelet and why am I wearing it?"
Eve explains to Marina that Nekros' attack had left a "taint" on her and that the Wardens consultant on all things mystical said that through the "taint" Marina could be used by Nekros to regain physical form. Eve then holds up her arm to reveal a matching bracelet and explains that she chose to be bonded with Marina. Eve goes on to explain that the bonding bracelet enables her to monitor Marina and protect her from being used by Nekros.
Marina with a look of terror on her face listens to Eve explain the bonding bracelet. When Eve is finished Marina shakes her head and speaks, "too many people risking their lives for my stupidity. Was there some other choice?"
"Death," mumbles Brasidas.
"Then kill me now. I do not want this thing coming back. My mistakes have put too many people at risk and now because of my foolishness even more could be at risk because I can serve as a gateway. No just kill me now and end the chance that that thing could return. It will be my payment for my mistakes."
Eve calms Marina down and says that killing her is not an option, that the decision has already been made. All of the Wardens have agreed that Maria's death is not the way to resolve the possible return of Nekros. The Wardens are well aware of what might happen and will help to make sure that Nekros can not use her to regain physical form.
After a long silence, Marina again speaks. "I remember riding in the ambulance and arriving at the FSS infirmary." Gesturing at Eve, Marina continues, "I saw another one, a male, like you riding in the ambulance then I remember hearing him dancing on the roof of the ambulance. The next thing I remember is being in the infirmary with a man dressed in weird robes standing over me. There is this other guy too, really handsome, but I don't remember where I saw him. Oh, a question, did you find Bobby?"
"Who is Bobby?," asks Brasidas.
"Robert Forsythe, a friend from the university."
Whitney verifies that Robert Forsythe was identified as one of the victims found in Nekros' new lair.
Upon hearing the news, Marina starts to cry. She looks at Brasidas and he gets the impression that Bobby and Marina were more than just friends.
Dr. Miller speaks up and suggests that Marina get some rest. Due to the fire in the infirmary, Marina is moved to one of the residential suites on sub-level two. Dr. Miller gives her a quick once over before giving her a sedative to help her rest.
From the Files of Dr. Miranda Saveda
What was I going to tell them, "Oh sure, she is a great candidate for membership in the Wardens. She is just as screwed up in the head as the rest of you."
No, I told them what they wanted to hear. She has a sense of purpose like most law-abiding paranormals, she believes, no, knows that she has her abilities for a reason and that they are not just a random happening. She also has a driving desire to make a difference in the world and help others.
Hearing my analysis, they readily accepted her into the group.
What is it about the "orphan warrior" type, whether they are upholding the law or branded as "terrorists," they always desire to take up the mantle of champion of the people.
